Thanks to everyone that has posted ideas and views on how we can alter our service and save £925,000 in the cost of collecting waste in Sutton.

The most commented on ideas were:

• Fortnightly rubbish collections (For = 47%, Against = 53%)
• Garden waste collection charges (For = 90%, Against =10%)
• Rewarding recycling (For = 90%, Against =10%)
• Penalising those that do not recycle (For = 75%, Against = 25%)
• Making better use of our waste collection vehicles (For = 33%, Against = 66%)

There were lots of ideas that we hadn’t seen before too, like introducing an accreditation scheme for businesses that help to reduce packaging and replacing individual wheeled bins with large European style ones for a whole road.

Next steps

Your ideas and views as well as those of staff and local businesses will be used to help us work out how to change our service and save £925,000 in the collection of waste. We will let you know which changes we plan to implement by the end of May.
